Employees are a company’s greatest asset, and recruiting talent is often top-of-mind for employers.  Now local employers in Maine have one more superlative to add to an already impressive list of reasons why employees should want to come live, and work, in this area.  Portland, Maine has been named one of the nation’s top 10 “happiest seaside towns” in a contest put on by Time Inc.’s Coastal Living.

Finalists on the list (which also includes beach destinations Hilo, HI; Hermosa Beach, CA; Sullivan’s Island, SC; and Rehoboth Beach, DE, among others) were assessed by ranking on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of clear and sunny days, commute times, walk-ability, crime ratings, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, and healthiness of beaches, among other factors. The winner and rankings will be announced April 7 and featured in the May issue of Coastal Living.

When attracting and hiring top talent, successful companies focus on marketing not only their own company’s brand as an employer of choice, but marketing their company’s geographic location and all their area has to offer. Luckily, employers in our area have a myriad of reasons to tout to prospective employees about why they would want to live and work in our vibrant city and the greater Portland area.
